Another year another tent! This month marks the return of everyone’s favourite show; The Great British Bake Off. An exciting time for all baking enthusiasts, myself included. GBBO will always be special to me, being a source of a great inspiration when I first started building the Mon Dessert brand...
GBBO is the embodiment of Britain’s ongoing love affair with baking, demonstrating the passion behind not only simple baking, but complicated and sophisticated technical bakes. French patisserie favourites such as the macaron have featured in a number of the series’ challenges as they are famously considered tricky to master. Watching contestants struggle to grasp the basic aspects of creating macarons played a major role in my inspiration to create the Mon Dessert macaron home baking kits. I wanted to squash the misconceptions that they are an impossible baking feat because I believe, if you love to bake and have the right equipment, macarons really aren't all that difficult! Practice makes perfect as they say.
This week sees some exciting changes to Bake Off. After 7 series on the BBC, The Great British Bake Off will now be airing for the 1st time on Channel 4, with an all new line up! Mary Berry, Queen of Cakes, has left the show, replaced by restaurateur Prue Leith. And for the comic touch, we have Noel Fielding & Sandi Toksvig, stepping in for Mel & Sue. Paul Hollywood will be the only remaining original piece of the GBBO furniture! I will be tuning in to see how the new dynamic works, and of course, for some mega #bakinginspo.
To celebrate our country's love of baking Mon Dessert has some exciting exclusive events taking places in the UK's most quintessentially British shop, Fortnum & Mason. We will be holding a series of tasting events which will coincide with the quarter final, semi final and final weeks of The Great British Bake Off:
Thursday Oct 26th (quarter final week)
Weds Nov 1st (semi final week)
Tuesday November 7th (which is the day of the final).
Put these dates in the diary and come along to see me demonstrate how to use the Mon Dessert kits from 2pm till 5pm at the flagship Fortnum & Mason store in Piccadilly. There will be a chance to sample several delicious treats as well as winning some exclusive Mon Dessert offers!
